Modern Micro-Shaker Kitchen Transformation

Modern Micro-Shaker Kitchen Transformation

After living in their home for several years, the homeowners were more than ready to retire their old kitchen. They had refreshed the space with painted cabinets and quick fixes over time, but the original cabinetry still showed its age. The room felt basic, nearly identical to countless other kitchens and they were eager to create a space that felt uniquely theirs. Now in a stage of life where they could invest in the kitchen they truly wanted, they partnered with Kelly Uhlig at RSI to bring their vision to life. The homeowner, who is a commercial construction manager, managed the project directly.

The remodel began with meaningful improvements, including new flooring throughout the space and  creation of a walk-through pantry for better function and flow. The refrigerator was integrated with custom wood panels giving it a seamless, elevated look. Black metal-framed glass doors from Elements introduced a contemporary accent, while a waterfall edge on the new island anchored the modern design direction.

Cabinetry played an essential role in the transformation. The combination of Wynnbrooke Summit micro-shaker doors in Tricorn Black paired with rift-cut white oak in the Sand finish and accents of painted white create a rich, layered palette. Sleek, integrated hardware kept every line clean. Natural quartzite countertops with matching full-height backsplash added depth, movement, and durability.

One of the biggest transformations was the island. Now significantly larger, it offers generous space for prep work and everyday cooking, while also serving as a natural gathering zone. Combined with updated lighter-toned hardwood floors, the entire space feels warm, bright, and ready for modern living.

Today, the homeowners have a kitchen that reflects their style and welcomes the people they love – a space built for entertaining, connecting, and truly feeling at home.
