Clayton Downs Kitchen Renovation
This kitchen renovation transformed a dated mid-century ranch into a bright, functional hub designed for a busy young family. After purchasing their home and renovating much of the interior, the homeowners partnered with Kitchen & Bath Designer Courtney Collins to reimagine a kitchen that felt cramped and inefficient. The existing layout featured a range located in the island and a large hood that made the space feel closed in, limiting both prep space and flow.
To create a more open and practical layout, a wall was removed to connect the kitchen with the family room, immediately improving sightlines and livability. The design team also relocated a staircase, allowing for the installation of a striking 48-inch professional-style range along a new wall. This change freed up the island, which is now generously sized to provide ample prep space and comfortable seating for family and guests.
Thoughtful details make the kitchen especially family-friendly. Drawers at the seating end of the island provide storage for art supplies and school paperwork, creating a convenient spot for homework and creative projects while keeping clutter easy to tuck away before dinner.
Visually, the kitchen blends warmth and contrast. Soft white Shiloh cabinetry surrounds the space, while the island features rich Bistro-stained alder cabinetry that anchors the room. Full-height stone backsplashes add a refined touch, and the dark wall color provides striking contrast that allows the cabinetry to stand out. The space is finished with professional-style appliances, champagne bronze plumbing fixtures, and gold hardware for a polished, cohesive look.
To further modernize the home, the renovation also removed the old beamed ceiling and dated tile flooring, replacing it with durable luxury vinyl plank flooring that now runs throughout the house—bringing the entire main living area together with a clean, updated feel.
